The Garden Design
and Build Process
Initial Meeting
I will visit your home in Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire or nearby location such as within lovely Winchester and have a look around your garden with you. We can discuss what you like and what you don’t, design objectives, and budget. I will give you an initial broad guide of likely total costs of the project implementation given the size of the property and brief outline. I will provide you with a design brief post meeting outlining the key points that we discussed.
Research & Preparation
If you would like to go forward with the design phase we will take a full site survey, ensuring we have all the measurements, slopes, existing trees for example, and combine with our initial meeting to draw up a site analysis. From here we are ready to go into the studio and start the design process.
Garden Design Process
I will create a Sketch Plan of the design including a 2D top view, but also 3D perspectives to help the client understand the layout more comprehensively. I will also present Mood Boards to convey the style of both materials, hard landscaping and also the soft landscaping areas. We would meet again and discuss the garden design ideas and make any additional tweaks if necessary. We can also design a detailed planting plan for you specifying plants, numbers, locations to complement the overall design.
At this point we are really at a junction in the process. The client could take the design they commissioned from me and decide to source their own landscaper to implement the design.
Alternatively I can take on the project management of that process for them, as outlined below:
Construction Drawings & Garden Build
At this stage we would draw up detailed construction drawings of the key hardscaping elements and build a specification pack so that when we put the project to tender with landscapers they have all the detail to come back with an accurate summary of costs.
I would manage this tender process for you and present you with the options. We would also visit the site during the build to ensure that the contractors are following the design and specification properly on your behalf. We then source the plants from trade nurseries to ensure quality and the best prices possible.
I will check the plants on arrival to make sure they are all of the correct quality and then position them in line with the planting plan ready for planting by the contractor or myself.
Maintenance Plan
We can also draw up a maintenance plan for caring for your new garden, to keep your plants, lawn and hardscape looking great! A professional garden design process guaranteed.
